(minimum of 10 participants) The Distribution Line Design and Certification Programs provide essential training for field engineering personnel. All courses include hands-on experience in the classroom and in the field, an overview of the National Electrical Safety Code and discussions about legal liability.
Intended for individuals who have successfully completed Levels I and II or already have extensive knowledge of overhead line design, this course offers students an opportunity to put their line design knowledge to use. Participants will design a double-circuit pole line that crosses an interstate, intersects an existing high-voltage transmission line and has taps that cross a state highway. Participants will spend time in the field surveying, recording notes and staking the proposed pole line. In the classroom, participants will complete the crossing permits, along with calculating required pole heights, guy tensions, lead lengths, pole classes, etc. The Level III course also includes evaluation of the use of concrete and steel poles for distribution line design.
