The Distribution Line Design and Certification Programs provide essential training for field engineering personnel. The Level I training is intended for those individuals that have less than three (3) years of distribution line design experience or for those who are looking to refresh their knowledge of basic line design.  The Level I training class covers the fundamentals of distribution line design.  Participants design a single phase overhead pole line that encompasses learning about RUS assemblies, clearances, sag tables, guy tensions and transformer loading.  An overview of the National Electrical Safety Code is covered during the training along with a discussion about legal liability.  The Level I course includes hands on experience in the classroom and in the field. The skills and knowledge learned during the course are essential for those who design and maintain distribution power lines.

Items recommended for each participant include:

  • 2017 National Electrical Safety Code
  • RUS 25 KV or 15 KV Line Construction Specs
  • Engineering Scale
  • Protractor
  • Basic Scientific Calculator
  • High Visibility Traffic Vest

Instructors:  Joe Pritchard of TRC and Malcolm Young, PE, PowerLine Technology, Inc.
