152.G1 The History of Electricity, Electric Cooperatives and the Seven Cooperative Principles

Cooperatives are special businesses and as such need strong advocates with a wealth of information to explain and promote the cooperative way of doing business.  Employees are the foundation of this network of advocates and are in an excellent position to help Members and the general public understand the benefits of cooperative membership and of having a strong electric cooperative in the community.  Attendees will leave the session with a better understanding of

the development of the current electric generation, transmission and distribution system in the United States.

the difference between private and public power and how that difference has shaped our business.

the history and mission of the cooperative business model.

the history and mission of electric cooperatives.

They will also be able to use and explain the Seven Cooperative Principles in their daily work.  These principles include cooperative governance, member economic participation (capital credits), cooperatives helping each other and the role cooperatives play in the community at large.

The tuition for this course is $195 per participant and includes course materials and lunch. Your cooperative will be invoiced upon completion of the course. If you have any additional questions, please contact Lauren Dodson at lauren.dodson@georgiaemc.com
