Job Description

1.Coordinates with Manager of Accounting on the general ledger monthly closing, which includes performing, analyzing, and verifying the month end tasks. Coordinates with Cooperative employees on accounting issues including, but not limited to, general ledger account numbers and budget item identification classifications.
2.Coordinates with Manager of Accounting and prepares operating reports for internal personnel and external agencies which includes, but is not limited to, the monthly board reports, special board requests, annual property tax return, annual form 990, annual report for unclaimed property, and year-end form.
3.Reports to the Manager on instances of non-adherence to policy and un-reconciled differences between the general ledger trial balance and appropriate subsidiaries.
4.Reviews work and provides support for all positions within the Accounting department.
5.Assist with the cash management of the Cooperative which includes, but is not limited to, maximizing excess funds with commercial paper investments, appropriate processing of accounts payable and payroll, and loan fund requisitions. Has authority to wire funds.
6.Performs all wire transactions for investments or payments during the month. Also prepares the entries with supporting documentation to post each month.
7.Works with external personnel and agencies including, but not limited to, RUS, CFC, FFB, CoBank, financial institutions, governmental agencies, and outside auditors on various requests including annual audit and required report filings, such as forms W-2’s, 1099’s, quarterly and year-end tax filings.
8.Assists with the preparation of the Cooperative operating/capital budgets and ensuring adherence to those budgets. Assists with reporting material variances in budget-to-actual amounts to management. Assists with analyzing budgeted projects for the Cooperative and all subsidiaries for timing and feasibility.
9.Coordinates and provides guidance for timekeeping and payroll processing and acts as backup for the Manager of Accounting.

Job Requirements •Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA desired. •Above average knowledge and skill in business math, banking, finance, cash management, tax research, and budgetary procedures are desirable. •Four (4) years current accounting experience or audit experience, preferably with electrical cooperative experience. •Must be willing to complete the RUS accounting course, be knowledgeable of content of RUS bulletins, governmental agency requirements, generally accepted accounting principles and generally accepted auditing standards including yellow book regulations, cooperative policies and procedures. •Requires a working knowledge of PC for use with MS Outlook and MS Word. •Ability to create and manage Excel spreadsheets to prepare, complete and distribute reports and other pertinent information to management and/or team members or other employees. •Exhibit high degree of flexibility and ability to perform multiple duties while experiencing interruptions. •Must have excellent interpersonal skills to deal with employees, other departments, and external contacts. •Require strong problem solving, organizational skills, planning skills and attention to detail. •Ability to maintain confidentiality of Cooperative records. •Ability to evaluate situations, make sound decisions and act on those decisions. •Must satisfactorily pass GreyStone’s pre-employment physical, drug screen, degree verification, criminal background and credit check.
